Ask anyone who works in commercial real estate data long enough, and they'll tell you the same thing: a property record is only as good as the data behind it. Get that wrong, and nothing else holds up - not the ownership structure, not the comps, not the contacts, not the opportunity.
It's a problem Shubhra Srivastava, SVP of Product Management at Altus Group, knows well. Reonomy, the property intelligence platform she oversees, was built to solve exactly that - piercing through the LLC on a deed to find the real owner, and the right person to call. But Srivastava is candid that the data foundation has been a source of real feedback from customers. We asked her what changed.
An engineering problem, not a perception issue
"We heard it from various sources," she says. "In customer calls, in support tickets, in the way people talk about property data generally. We could have treated that as a perception problem - but we didn't. We treated it as an engineering problem, and we went and fixed it."
Rebuilding the Reonomy backbone
That meant rebuilding what Srivastava calls the backbone of Reonomy: the Knowledge Graph, the system that resolves a property to its owner, an owner to everything else they hold, and a company to the right person to reach. The team introduced OpenCorporates as a new data source and deepened an existing partnership with Data Axle, alongside several other data partnerships already in place. But Srivastava is quick to point out that swapping data sources was the easy part.
"The harder part was putting real human review back into the process," she says. "Not leaving it to automation to sort out on its own. We also went to our data partners and established clearer accuracy requirements - and we're committed to monitoring and enforcing them."
| "We didn't patch the old system. We rebuilt the foundation - so you can actually rely on the connections and data in Reonomy."

An ongoing commitment to data quality
"I want Reonomy to be the name people trust by default - not because we say so, but because the data holds up every time someone checks it. That's a high bar. It's also the right one,” Srivastava explains. The rebuild of the Reonomy Knowledge Graph is just the start of additional rollouts over the next few months: tighter accuracy on the contact details people rely on to reach a decision maker, deeper work on sales and loan data so comps hold up under scrutiny, and continued investment in ownership resolution.
"We're not done," she says. "Honestly, I don't think we ever will be - not in the way people usually mean when they ask that. Data quality isn't something you fix once and move on from."

Try Reonomy yourself
For current Reonomy customers, the Altus team wants to hear your feedback on the improvements - reach out to your Customer Success representative. "We really want to keep the conversation loop going," says Srivastava, "to ensure that we're meeting the commitments we've set."
For anyone else who has discounted Reonomy in the past, Srivastava has a simpler ask.
| "Come take another look," she says. "I think you'll be surprised and impressed."
