Québec & COVID-19: Impacts on property tax
THE IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON MUNICIPAL ASSESSMENT
We are currently checking whether and how COVID-19 and the measures taken by various levels of government (including Decree 223-2020 of March 25, 2020 of the Government of Quebec on the State of Health Emergency–French only), could qualify as events, as defined by The Act on Municipal Taxation, which could justify a temporary reduction in municipal assessments.
We are collecting information from property owners to quantify the impacts on values for all asset classes. We are also studying various options to determine the optimal strategy to adopt in dealing with municipalities to obtain the best results for our clients in the most efficient manner. We will act sooner rather than later.
