Gastown Child Care Centre
Overview
The project involved converting rooftops of two adjacent, city-owned parking structures into a 74-space childcare facility, joined by a foot bridge. Prefabricated elements were cleverly adopted to shorten time frames on site. High-performance envelope assemblies, rooftop photovoltaics and heat pumps contributed to achieving Passive House designation on this bold proof of concept; one that uses 72% less energy than a comparable childcare facility and emits 97% less greenhouse gasses.
