New Brunswick property assessment and tax notice

The clock has started to tick down on New Brunswick property assessment appeals.

On October 3rd, most property owners in New Brunswick will be receiving their 2023 “Real Property Assessment and Tax Notice”. Your deadline for appeal is November 2nd. Let Altus Group help you safely navigate the property tax appeal process and keep tax dollars in your pocket.

Uncertain times

Last year many witnessed some of the highest increases in assessed value on record as Service New Brunswick reacted to a perceived strong market for specific property types. For 2023, property tax rate volatility can be expected as recent legislation changes allow for more variability in municipal rates and taxation that could shift tax burden to some commercial property owners.

An element of surprise

Like last year, the tax bill is no longer included with your assessment. The bill will only come out in March (of 2023), so by the time you find out what you owe, the appeal window will have expired. Do not miss your right to appeal.

Missing your New Brunswick property tax notice?

Service New Brunswick has again delayed the release of some notices this year pending further review. The hold can be caused by a number of reasons including outstanding appeals, a sale/transfer, new property account number, building permits occurring late in the year, etc. Held notices are expected to be released January 27th.
