Alberta Announces Shallow Gas Property Tax Relief Program
Program to offer rebates for qualifying shallow gas wells and pipelines
Late in the day on July 2, the Alberta Provincial Government announced an immediate 2019 tax relief program for the province’s shallow gas producers who have been negatively affected by low commodity prices and the corresponding high assessment and property tax values.
The province is facilitating this 35% rebate through a reduction of the provincial education requisition portion of the property tax for qualifying shallow gas wells and pipelines. Most of the affected infrastructure is located in the southeast corner of the province, extending as far north as the County of Camrose.
A list of qualifying wells and associated pipelines will be compiled by the government. A link with all current information, including the affected municipalities, can be found at:

We applaud everyone involved in this initiative; taking steps to protect Alberta jobs and the natural gas industry is a positive move for this sector.
