After graduating with an honours degree in Estate Management from the University of Reading, England, Neil began his career with a firm of Chartered Surveyors in Liverpool, England in 1977. He worked in brokerage, headed the compulsory purchase (expropriation) group and was an auctioneer’s clerk.
After immigrating to Canada in 1980, he worked in Halifax, NS, for Pat King Appraisals and then opened an office for them in St. John’s, Newfoundland in 1982. In 1992, he and a partner became owners of the Newfoundland operation, known then as Hardy Appraisals. The company operated throughout Newfoundland and Labrador providing real estate consulting and valuation advisory services, exclusively for commercial investment, hotels, multi res/condo development, industrial properties and land and specialized in expropriation, assessment and special studies.
In May 2005, the company amalgamated with affiliates across Canada to create Altus Group. In 2008, Neil was appointed Executive Vice President for the offices in the Atlantic provinces. He was also responsible for managing the national practice group initiative for the Research, Valuation and Advisory division across Canada. During his career, Neil has developed a high level of expertise in many property types, provides expert testimony before courts / tribunals and presents before industry groups.
