Frank
Clayton, President, continues to be an active speaker.
On June 21st, he gave a talk to the 8th Annual Real Estate Financing
Summit dealing with understanding the dynamics of commercial and
industrial real estate space absorption. On June
2nd, he spoke on the topic of Future Demographic Change and
Housing Demand in the Greater Golden Horseshoe at The Land Conference. At the
end of March he gave a talk on The Province's Draft Growth Plan:
Implications for the GTA Housing Market at a GTHBA breakfast session. In February, he
addressed the Ontario Fee Appraisers' Symposium on the property
value impacts of Greenbelt Reform and talked about the economic
outlook to the Edmonton Lumberman's Association. In March he was part of a panel at the Canadian Home Builders' Association in St.
John's dealing with the economic and housing market outlook. In
December he was on a Toronto NAIOP panel talking about the Toronto
condominium market outlook. In October and November he participated in
two GTHBA events - the Economic Outlook Symposium and the Implications
of Ontario's Proposed Greenbelt and Growth Management Reforms. In
September he was a moderator for a panel at the Canadian Apartment
Investors Conference.
Patricia
Arsenault, Senior Vice President, recently
presented highlights of real estate investment
performance at the RealFinance conference in Toronto
and Clayton Research’s
outlook for housing starts and renovation activity at the CHBA
Economic Research Committee. Each quarter, Patricia presents the latest
findings from the FIRM
survey on Canadian consumers' mortgage and personal borrowing
behaviour and attitudes to
Canada's leading lenders. And Canada's top Property and Casualty Insurance companies obtain comparable
FIRM tracking info on home and auto insurance customers. Patricia
works with IPD (London, England) on the ICREIM/IPD Canadian Property Index, a real estate investment
benchmark service and with the Canadian Home Builders'
Association on the Pulse Survey of Home Builders.
Jeannette
Gillezeau, Vice President, has been busy
with a variety of assignments. Over the spring, she provided strategic advice to a number of home builder and
developer groups regarding municipal development charge appeals in Aurora,
Brampton, Oakville and Markham, and an amendment to the education
development charge by-laws in Halton Region. She provided
evidence at an Ontario Municipal Board hearing regarding a
proposal to expand the urban boundary of the City of Ottawa and
at another hearing regarding the economic implications of a
retail development proposed for an employment district in the Town of
Oakville.
Robert
Feldgaier, Vice President, Residential Services,
has been involved in preparations for two Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) hearings
- one for a proposed apartment development in the City of Vaughan and the other
for an urban area boundary expansion for the North Leslie Secondary Plan Area in
the Town of Richmond Hill. He has also been involved in a litigation matter
related to a proposed condominium apartment development.
In addition to expert witness work, he is completing the High Density Residential
Policy Review on behalf of the City of Brampton and has undertaken housing
market studies in the City of London, for several proposed projects in Simcoe
County, and for a number of adult lifestyle communities in southern Ontario.
Robert has been fielding an increasing number of enquiries from
the media and private sector firms regarding the
outlook for the condominium apartment market in the Greater Toronto
Area.
Peter
Norman, Vice President, is currently engaged in conducting the
Concrete Market Gauge survey for the Cement Association of Canada –
measuring the size and scope of the market for concrete in Canadian
construction, and is compiling his quarterly forecasts for housing
starts in Canada through to 2006. Mr. Norman is also conducting a
large market study of the manufactured housing industry in Canada on
behalf of CMHC. Mr. Norman is presently appearing before the Ontario
Municipal Board as an economic expert witness on a shopping centre
application. Mr. Norman's testimony addresses the economic development
potential of a mid-sized city in Ontario and its related population
and income growth potential. Mr. Norman has recently completed a
comprehensive report for a major investment firm entitled:
"Housing as an Asset Choice for Canadians, Understanding the
Facts and Figures"; a long-term forecast of population and
housing growth in Halifax; and a report for the City of Timmins
titled: "City of Timmins Plan of Development Study, Summary of
Economic Development Assessment and Municipal Finance
Considerations". Mr. Norman delivered a recent keynote address to
the Ontario Wood Truss Fabricators' Association, the Hardlines Retail
Symposium, CHBA Economic Research Committee, Greater Toronto
Homebuilders Association and the Reed Construction Data Forecast
Conference. He has also made several television and radio appearances
over the past year speaking on economics and real estate issues,
including CBC Newsworld, Global News and ROB TV. Mr. Norman is active
in his role on the Executive Committee of the Toronto Association for
Business and Economics.
